Steven R. Springsteel
Chairman, CEO and President
Steven R. Springsteel was appointed president and chief executive officer of Chordiant Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHRD) effective February 1, 2006. Mr. Springsteel was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors in November, 2006. Mr. Springsteel brings more than 20 years of experience in operational and financial management to his position. His accomplishments include the management of two successful IPO's and multiple mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Springsteel also has extensive experience in raising equity and debt funding totaling over $300 million in the public and private marketplaces, as well as formulating and implementing complex business strategies. He has a demonstrated record of recruiting and building strong organizations.
His most recent experience was at Verity (Nasdaq: VRTY), where he served as president and chief financial officer. At Verity, he grew a profitable business through five acquisitions and ultimately guided the sale of the company.
Mr. Springsteel's background includes serving from 1996 to 2000 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Chordiant Software through its initial public offering in February 2000. He has been a member of Chordiant's Board of Directors since 2004 and has chaired both its Audit and Compensation Committees during his tenure as an independent board member.
Mr. Springsteel has been a member of the board of directors of three public companies and has headed both audit and compensation committees of those public company boards.
A frequent speaker on financial issues, Mr. Springsteel has appeared on CNBC and other business media outlets as well as at financial industry conferences.
Mr. Springsteel holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Cleveland State University.
Chief Technology Officer
James St. Jean carries responsibility for all engineering activities for both US and offshore operations. Mr. St. Jean has provided important leadership for Chordiant in defining and executing on our applications strategy, including Chordiant's vertical applications initiative. He also leads our internal patent committee and has provided important leadership in Chordiant’s acquisition and integration strategy. Mr. St. Jean joined Chordiant in 2000 when the company he formed in 1999 (White Spider) was acquired by Chordiant. Before his promotion, James served as Chordiant's vice president of applications and before that as vice president of design and architecture.
Prior to his tenure at Chordiant, Mr. St. Jean was vice president and chief architect of Vantive Corporation. He was also one of the founders of Innovative Computer Concepts (ICC). At ICC he served in several management positions including director of development and vice president of development. Mr. St. Jean also served in various development, development management and project management roles with Raytheon Corporation and Lockheed Corporation.
Mr. St. Jean holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire.
Chief Financial Officer
Peter Norman was named chief financial officer of Chordiant Software in March of 2006. Pete joined Chordiant in August 2004 as director of finance and was named vice president and corporate controller in March 2005. Prior to Chordiant, he spent 12 years as a senior manager in the audit practice of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. He also served in senior financial and operational positions with several private companies. Mr. Norman holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, cum laude, from Humboldt State University with a major in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a member of the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer
Frank Florence is responsible for overseeing Chordiant’s marketing strategy, branding and new market development. Mr. Florence has served in senior marketing positions at a number of the top innovators in the software industry. He joined Chordiant from Dorado Corporation, a leader in Web services-based applications for home lending, where he served as senior vice president of marketing and corporate development. He joined Dorado in 2003 to lead the company’s positioning and product strategy initiatives.
Prior to Dorado, Mr. Florence was senior vice president of marketing for InStranet, Inc., an enterprise software start-up company. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Florence held senior management positions at Interwoven, Inc., an enterprise content management company.
Mr. Florence also served in senior management positions at SmartDB, Inc., an enterprise application integration company; Parallax Graphics, Inc., a leader in high-end networked digital video, and Dataquest, Inc., a worldwide technology marketing research firm. Mr. Florence holds a bachelor's degree and a master's of business administration degree from Santa Clara University.
Vice President and General Manager, Worldwide Professional Services
Prashant K. (P.K.) Karnik joined Chordiant in August of 2006 as vice president & general manager, professional services. PK is responsible for worldwide customer delivery, implementation, and SI partner collaboration and training. PK is an industry veteran with more than 25 years of experience leading delivery teams and developing partner relationships in the technology and enterprise software markets. Prior to Chordiant, P.K. was senior vice president, services, for a solutions provider in the domestic financial services industry, where he managed a worldwide group of more than 150 professionals.
Previously he served in executive management positions with Datanautics (a.k.a Accrue Software), Aspect Communications, and Hewlett-Packard’s Global Services organization. At Aspect P.K. led a global team of more than 350 consultants spanning 26 countries. Mr. Karnik holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT India, an MS in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University, and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University.
Vice President, Worldwide Sales
As head of worldwide sales, David Cunningham is responsible for driving customer sales, pre-sales support, and global account management in North America and Europe, and expanding the Chordiant presence in newly developed regions. Before joining the the Chordiant team David was Vice President of Vertical and Large Account Sales at Symantec, the world's fourth largest software company.
Prior to joining Symantec, David served successfully at IBM Corporation in multiple roles, including Vice President, Global New Business and Competitive Sales, where he was responsible for delivering market share gains in software, services and hardware across key markets and brands. In previous North American and European-based global sales roles with IBM, David exceeded sales targets in total contract wins, consistently winning large accounts from key competitors and exceeding quotas.
Vice President, Worldwide Engineering
Chuck Altomare is responsible for all global technical and product development activities across Chordiant’s “decision-based” set of applications and solutions. Mr. Altomare joined Chordiant in February 2008.
Prior to joining Chordiant Software, Altomare was Vice President, Engineering at Business Objects, where he managed and led its European Development Center for three years. Based in France, he was responsible for all engineering functions across development, software testing, technical product management, release management and documentation. Altomare also headed engineering for Acta, a leading applications integration company acquired by Business Objects in 2002. Prior to Acta Altomare spent 11 years at Informix Software, where he progressed through a number of executive engineering positions, the last of which was Vice President of Product Engineering. Earlier at Informix Altomare was also responsible for creating the TransAct Business Group, and directed all porting for all Informix products to UNIX and Windows/NT platforms.
Mr. Altomare holds a BA in Psychology from Temple University, Philadelphia.
Vice President, Human Resources
As vice president of human resources at Chordiant, Jack is responsible for all human resources activities, including benefits, compensation, employee communications, coaching, recruitment, development and retention.
Before joining Chordiant, Landers was vice president of human resources at both Verity, Inc. and Legato Systems, Inc. At Legato he was a member of the executive team that restored the company to profitability and revenue growth while managing all programs, policies and processes affecting the selection, development, retention and productivity of 1,500 employees worldwide. Prior to Legato, Landers was vice president of human resources for Pacific Gateway Exchange where he built a complete human resources function from inception, to meet the needs of a fast-growing telecommunications and Internet company. Landers began in human resources at Digital Equipment Corporation, now part of HP. From there he went to Bay Networks, now part of Nortel, as the HR manager for U.S. sales, marketing, and customer development functions. Landers is a resident of Redwood City, California. He holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts from Boston College.
Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Derek Witte has served as our vice president, general counsel, secretary and chief compliance officer since November 2005. From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Witte served as general counsel and secretary for the Silicon Valley Bank and its holding company, SVB Financial Group. From 2001 until 2002, Mr. Witte served as vice president and general counsel for Tellme Networks, a privately-held voice recognition software company.
From 1990 until 2001, Mr. Witte was with Symantec Corporation, first as general counsel and later as senior vice president of worldwide operations. Prior to his corporate technology experience, Mr. Witte practiced law with Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe in Palo Alto, California and Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, in San Francisco. Mr. Witte earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a law degree from the University’s School of Law (Boalt Hall).
